Evobus Italia and Enel X Italia have won a tender for 16 Mercedes eCitaro electric buses (13 with a length of 12 meters, and 3 articulated). They’ll be in operation in the province of Trento. This is the first electric bus tender won in Italy by the Italian subsidiary of Daimler Truck.

Signature of the contract is expected by 30/09/2022; the supply should begin within 400 consecutive days from the signature.

The awarding was announced by the Province of Trento itself (and is reported on specialized media Autobusweb), specifying that the vehicles will serve the route between Trento, Lavis and Zambana.

“The plan is to build up a high-capacity line with a reserved lane between the city centre and the northern suburbs as far as Zambana,” reads the autonomous administration’s note. “The service will go from an hourly capacity of around 300 passengers per direction up to a maximum of 800 at peak times depending on frequency. The aim is the reduction of CO2 emissions, estimated at 400 tonnes less per year, and a positive energy balance with an energy reduction of about 13 per cent’.

As mentioned, the two lots are both financed with European funds from Next Generation EU programme. The first lot has a value of €7,514,669.00 and includes 6 12-metre and 3 18-metre buses with charging infrastructure in the depot and at the terminus. The second lot has a value of €4,717,406.00 for 7 12-metre electric buses with charging infrastructure at the terminus. Charging infrastructures are to be provided by Enel X.
