Business change for pepper motion, which henceforth becomes a technology provider for zero-emission vehicle manufacturers or retrofitters. As a result of this consequential decision, pepper will focus on its core area of expertise, the development and marketing of its modular drive system for the economical and sustainable electrification of new and used buses, trucks, and specialty vehicles.

But this is not the only new development. In fact, the German company is entering the Indian market through a project with the Andhra Pradesh state government. The plan calls for the construction of a production plant to convert diesel buses and trucks and build new vehicles, including battery production of up to 20 GWh. Both battery electric units and Pepper’s fuel cell-based propulsion system, which was recently launched in an initial small series, will be used.

It is also planned to develop and offer a charging infrastructure with other technology partners, such as chargebyte. The investment project has a total volume of about $600 million. The conversion and vehicle production facilities are scheduled to be commissioned in early 2025 at the earliest.

The plan calls for the production of more than 50,000 electric buses and trucks per year starting in 2027 and the marketing of electric drive components for commercial vehicles internationally.
