A picture of the development of hydrogen technology in public transport, and an informed view on future scenarios. These were the goals pursued by the webinar “Hydrogen buses. Their time is… now?”, organized within the Sustainable Bus Tour 2021 and broadcasted Thursday 14th October. The webinar gathered 1,139 registrations at the event and 907 single viewers.

The future of fuel cell buses in public transport, explained

According to UITP, in 2030 the 12 per cent of the city bus market in Europe will be covered by H2 buses. The JIVE 1 and JIVE 2 projects will end in 2021 with a total of 350 fuel cell buses rolled out in Europe (as of June 2021, there were some 150 hydrogen buses in operation).

Which is the market potential for fuel cell bus deployment? How to deal with the infrastructural aspects? Is this technology going to find its place in the urban environment or mostly in intercity routes?

We discussed these topics with a wide series of panelists from public transport and industry players: UITP, FCH JU, the German association of public transport companies VDV, SASA Bolzano outlined experiences and strategies in the fuel cell bus sphere.

The Sustainable Bus Tour, promoted and organized by Sustainable Bus, leverages on the mobility partnership of Transdev and Keolis. The first webinar, focusing on the topic of charging fleets of e-buses, was broadcasted on the 6th of May. It gathered 1,649 registrations and over 1,000 single viewers.
